ShearBan® Low Friction Interface

MANAGE THE FRICTION THAT CAUSES SKIN TRAUMA AT THE POINT OF INJURY

For years, practitioners have been reducing skin trauma, caused by shear forces, with aggressive recontouring. In recent years, practitioners have found ShearBan® to be an equally effective & often a more efficient tool in reducing shear stresses at the area of skin trauma. Applying ShearBan® is a simple and quick alternative for reducing friction without losing or changing the support of a properly contoured device. For some cases you will want to use both tools- ShearBan® and recontouring the device, to achieve or restore comfort.

ShearBanShearBan® is an ultra-thin interface that greatly reduces skin rubbing stresses by reducing friction in targeted locations. The interfaces provide a low-friction surface to the area of the device where rubbing/abrasion is a problem. ShearBan’s aggressive adhesive creates a strong bond, eliminating migration, even in the presence of moisture and sweat. ShearBan® interfaces are extremely durable, lasting up to several months. ShearBan® is available in blue or beige.

IDENTIFY THOSE AREAS WHERE FRICTION NEEDS TO BE REDUCED

Excessive levels of friction will cause visible skin trauma (eg. Reddened skin, abrasions, blisters, calluses, etc.). However, not all friction is ‘bad’. In fact, friction forces are at times the principle of how a device suspends and functions and should not be totally eliminated. Because ShearBan® is designed to reduce friction to its lowest level, it is important to use it only in specific areas where red skin indicates trouble.
